Death Island is a Blackened Melodic Death Metal band established in 2014. The current lineup consists of Brothers Mik Grendze (Vocals/Guitar) and Karlis Grendze (Drums), Jared McGuire (Guitar), Patrick Harmon (Bass), and Angel Gonzalez (Guitar).

All of the members are passionate and active members of the metal scene, frequently attending live shows in their local area. Their sound is self-described as “Trench Digging Death Metal” or “Trench Death”, a unique blend of Old School Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, as well as some Hardcore influences. The band’s name derives from a battle in Latvia during the First World War, and the term “Trench Death” derives from the environment of the trenches of the First World War. Lyrical content includes war, satanism, gore, fantasy, and history. Mik Grendze takes guitar lessons from Revocation guitarist Dave Davison and had a good friendship with the late Trevor Strnad, Vocalist of The Black Dahlia Murder. Karlis Grendze briefly took lessons from Alex Bent, drummer of Trivium. Jared McGuire briefly took lessons with Alluvial Guitarist, Wes Hauch, and currently takes lessons with Luke Man of Leatherwolf and Premium Guitar Coaching. Based in Irvington, New York, each of the members regularly attend local metal shows in the New York area. Death Island has shared the stage with other prominent upcoming metal bands such as Tombstoner, Final Siege, Mockcharge, Sickbay, Thanatotic Desire, and Torn in Half, as well as well-established acts such as Pyrexia, Malignancy, Wormwitch, and Flotsam & Jetsam.
